1. Normal power failure

The command is sent from the host to the SSD controller to inform it that the power is about to be interrupted. The SSD controller sends a confirmation message back to the host, and then stores the data temporarily stored in the cache into the Flash. This is a normal power failure process, and the data is generally not affected.

2. Power failure without warning

The data being transmitted cannot be saved, nor will it be transferred to the Flash. The data stored in the SSD cannot be updated correctly, resulting in data loss. In serious cases, the device cannot even be turned on.

3. The difference between ordinary hard disk and power-off protection hard disk

When writing data, every time the data in the computer system memory is written to the SSD, it is first written to the SSD cache, and the SSD controller then writes the data in the cache to the NAND Flash.
The power-off protection hard disk has two additional functions based on the ordinary hard disk. One is the voltage detection module, which is used to detect when the external voltage is too low and generate an interrupt to the SSD controller; the other function is the power storage module, which is used to provide the SSD with a long enough battery life when the external voltage is too low.

Power protection can increase the backup time of the power supply and write back to the device completely. The emergency backup power of traditional solid-state hard disks without power-off protection can only maintain 2ms, which is 2/1000th of a second. When the power is off, the data cannot be written to the solid-state hard disk in time, resulting in data loss.
The emergency backup power of solid-state hard disks equipped with large capacitors can be increased to 60ms, which is 60/1000th of a second, increasing the time by 30 times, thereby providing ample time for data to be written completely.
